I wrote this post about 3 years ago, and it still holds true. I hope it resonates with you as well
I have had kind of an introspective week. I don’t know if it is returning from a trip, the fabulous fall like weather, lots of time with family…..or it could just be hormones. Seriously friend, 51 is a tough gig some days.
I was on one of my chat groups and someone shared that they were struggling with finding customers. They said, “these days everyone just sends e-cards or texts, no one sends card anymore”
a few days later I fell ABSOLUTELY. HEAD. OVER. HEELS. with this:
“It all matters. That someone turns out the lamp, picks up the windblown wrapper, says hello to the invalid, pays at the unattended lot, listens to the repeated tale, folds the abandoned laundry, plays the game fairly, tells the story honestly, acknowledges help, gives credit, says good night, resists temptation, wipes the counter, waits at the yellow, makes the bed, tips the maid, remembers the illness, congratulates the victor, accepts the consequences, takes a stand, steps up, offers a hand, goes first, goes last, chooses the small portion, teaches the child, tends to the dying, comforts the grieving, removes the splinter, wipes the tear, directs the lost, touches the lonely, is the whole thing. What is most beautiful is least acknowledged. What is worth dying for is barely noticed.”
I’m not kidding, I want this read at my funeral.
Creating and sending cards matters.
YOU know full well that a beautiful hand written card in the mail is going to be appreciated and make a deeper connection than a text ever will. You know the joy the creator feel and the joy the receiver feels.
Our job is not to convince those people who don’t see the innate value. Our job is to LIVE THE TRUTH, make a difference and find our way to those people who share our values.
Do not fool yourself into thinking that people “just don’t make and send cards anymore”. They are out there. They are the people who make soup for a sick friend, listen when someone’s heart hurts, send flowers to celebrate the little things, gather their people together…..likely you are one of these people and you know many others.
We don’t need to convince people that what we offer is worthwhile. We need to find our tribe of folks who share the same vibration that it all matters.
