If you are a Stampin'Up! Demonstrator you have April 21st highlighted, circled in red, and an alarm set!
It is the out with the old, in with the new, great anticipation of all the fun new products Stampin'Up! will have in the 2014-2015 catalog.
Now if you are like me, you will have a list a mile long of all the things you have to purchase
- New Colors
- New Papers
- New Accessories
- Stuff we have to have in order to run our businesses
- All the new classes we will offer
- All the new techniques we can teach
It is exciting and re-invigorating
But allow me to be the party pooper, voice of reason, glass of cold water splashed on your grand plans.
You don't need it all right away.
Now if you are a true "hobby demo" and purchasing just for yourself and for your own paper crafting addiction, I say go for it!
Buy everything you want!
but if you are in this as a business, to make money, to be profitable, it is wise to be a little more prudent in your purchases.
Think about what you will do for the next 5 weeks and plan accordingly.
1) Retired Items
step away from the retired items list. If you are in business, then items you can't sell really aren't a good investment. Save your dollars and your space for items that can help you build your business and service your customers
2) Hostess Pre-Order
Back in the day we did a lot of traditional workshops and showing the hostess sets was a great tease to get people to host workshops. We don't do as many true workshops anymore and the hostess sets really aren't a huge carrot to dangle in front of folks.
If you LOVE it, like you would wake up in the middle of the night thinking about it, then by all means get it. But you certainly don't need all of them, or any of them.
3) Pre-Orders
new colors, new paper, new stamp sets, new embellishments….we think we need all of these things to compete with our fellow demos. Well, they will be showing them on their blog so I need to be showing them too. But you can't show them all tomorrow
And you can't even sell them until Friday, May 31st
Which means you are investing in items that can't bring you any business for 5 weeks. Even if you host a sneak peek party, they can't order those items until May 31st.
So plan out what you are going to focus on for the next 5 weeks and decide what you really need.
4) Title Product Credits
Free? Hugely discounted? Yep, those are great ways to build your new stuff and make for smart business decisions!
Now, as an upline, it is best for my immediate business for you to order BIG.
It is best for SU! to have all of us order BIG
But the question is what is best for you and your business.
If you are going to use it RIGHT NOW, then it makes sense to buy it RIGHT NOW
But I don't want you to have tons of product on hand that you might use one day, that you bought because you thought you had to. And then they sit. That doesn't help anybody.
So be excited
Make that big list
and then be thoughtful
and remember that a new stamp set is equal to a box of new catalogs.
A new catalog in the hands of your customer will bring you a lot more business than a new stamp set.
You put things into perspective perfectly!
thanks Debbie!!

Good advice!
And I keep reminding myself to hang on to those Great Rewards points until I can get a box of the NEW catalogs with them! Thanks for the words of business wisdom, Lisa!

Thank you for putting it in perspective for me! I’m a newbie and I have never been through a new catalog so I was getting nervous! I want to make sure I do what’s best.
Keep the cold water coming! This is the logical business advice that we all need as we enter kid-in-a-candy-store time aka new catalog release.
you are welcome Chellie! The un-popular but true view when it comes to all those goodies!

SUCH good advice. Thank you, Lisa!!
great advice!
great advice- I plan to hold off for a bit, just get my title bennies and new catty’s with GR pts!
Thanks Lisa! As a new demo, I feel the need to keep up with the big time bloggers. This is a reality check I needed to hear!
Well done. You are absolutely correct. Thanks for the reminder.
I really appreciate this, too. I am planning to use Great Rewards for some of my catalogs this year, as well as hold off an wait to see what’s new before I redeem my SAB rewards.
Just thought I would drop in even before opening my mail today! Starving for education. Very helpful post! Thank you so much for sharing and now I’ll Subscribe to not miss a beat!
thanks Patti!! So glad you enjoyed it and welcome tot he blog!!

This is what I did last year Lisa and I cut my spending in half!!
I am definitely learning this as I go along. Fortunately, I’ll be out of the country for the first 9 days of the pre-order! I won’t order a thing. When I get back, I will browse some blogs and see what is popular out there and what I like. I will take my catalog with me (I’m going to the premiere right before I leave) and I will know it by heart!
